Yesterday Buddy went to the vet
I have known our vet for as long as he has owned the practice, over 30 years. When I called he made it a point to stay to check Buddy out. He knows a lot and has cared for some sick kitties over the years. Me being a RN we went over the things I would think of if Buddy was a person coming into my ED. He agreed it was an odd case as there were no clear signs to any path... Then he suggested an inner ear infection. He says this can come on suddenly and Buddy has been sneezing a little. This could be why he was not eating. If a cat cant smell it they wont eat it and he did not even eat the freeze dried minnows that he LOVES Saturday night!
I really pray it is that simple solution but at 16 anything could be possible. He is now on fluids, will get some steroids and antibiotics. We shall see...
He was in no pain and, unlike myself, did not seem upset which I find heartening. He will get any care he needs as long as he is happy and comfortable.
I will update today when I have more information!
Please send Purrs and Prayers.

Right after we posted our Selfie with Rumpy there was a medical event.
Something happened to Buddy Budd. He is turning 17 this year and has some medical issues but this is something totally new and very scary!
He has not been eating well the past 24 hours and I was watching him closely this morning with his breakfast. He passed up his normal meal even with treats on top. More alarming was he seemed very unsteady on his feet.
I got the rest their breakfast and he had gone into my office. I called him and he came out but was walking with an odd gait. He climbed up onto the table using his stairs and I opened some baby food for him.
Wow did he dig in! He ate the whole bottle and I was really happy. Happy until he tried to jump down and fell!
Now he cannot stand or walk. He is in no pain. I thought a Saddle Thrombus but no pain and his back legs are warm.
He tries to get up but not a lot and, as stated, he seems to be in no pain. I moved him over to the water and he drank a good bit like always.
He was lucid and awake
No crying and no pain!
He did not seem very upset by all this!
I did what needed to be done to care for my Big Blue Buddy, Buddy Budd.

Can Buddy walk? You are really blessed to have a doc to see on a Sunday! And he didn't have anything wrong with his spine? I had a kitty with a bad ear infection and she was wobbly on her feet and then couldn't walk very well. We thought she had gotten into the antifreeze and rushed her to ER - thank goodness it was an ear infection. Praying that is all there is too! -Katie Kat.
ReplyDeleteGet well Buddy. Because we love you Mr Russian Blue!
DeleteI have Buddy in my paw prayers. It's so upsetting not to know exactly what is making us kitteh's sick. I hope your Vet is able to figure it out and get the dood on the path to wellness asap. Purrs! Herman and Mom
ReplyDeleteI am praying for sweet Buddy. His condition sounds very similar to Prancie. The vet thought it was an inner ear issue, but I still think it was a stroke. Cats recover from them much better than people. The important thing is he is not in pain. XO
ReplyDeleteWe are praying for Buddy like there is no tomorrow, and hope that you too get to feel better very soon. Your vet sounds a top guy and I'm sure will have a handle on it very soon, if he hasn't already.

I'm continuing to purr for Buddy! If he is in good spirits and acting like nothing is amiss, that is a good sign - I hope whatever is going on clears up and it turns out to be no big deal.
ReplyDeleteNot good to read, Dad Pete, but you were on the case right away, and having your old friend the veteran vet take a look at Buddy was a Godsend. I hope it is no more than an infection - as bad as that may be - but it's odd that Buddy isn't walking. At least he is in no pain while this is happening. I'll keep looking for updates.
ReplyDeleteWe send Buddy tons of purrs ! Purrs
