*Fitz Zooms in the door Rumpy & Einstein After her* Fitz! What did you DO! NO! |
|
But Dad it's Nature! You are Domesticated and don't need to hunt. We don't! 99% of the time Smells yummy

|
*Grab, Grab* How did this happen? I don't know really. All of a sudden it was there and I jumped and... |
|
*Whiffie* What is that? Is it a funny color Mousie? No Einie it's a Bird and one Dad likes. Sorry Dad *Head Down* You have all been outside in the Cat Yard for two years and this is the first. Please make it the LAST! The mice are fine but *Dad gets bird* Wait. This fellow is ramrod stiff! Did you Catch this or Find this? Um, found it I guess. So cats, birds do fly into walls and get hurt so you are off the hook but Don't Bring them Inside. Lucky you Fitz Rumpy, Hush! I was really surprised when I saw the bird as we have never had one caught before and they stay out of the yard. It was a relief to know Fitz did not catch it. The crew are all a bit older and slow except for Einie who prefers a ground based chase Thankfully it is still Birds 1 Cat Family 0 |

Boy oh boy, accidents do happen. I guess that does leave Miss Fitz proven innocent in a court of cats. It seems like she was simply trying to bring you some fresh poultry to add to your diet, Dad. She might have thought a fresh pot of chicken soup is just what a human needs to feel better.
ReplyDeleteOH my, MY oh MY MY oh MY!. Mom said it somehow reminded her of the time our Robin (in the 90's and our last indoor/outdoor cat) caught a fledgling bluejay. We heard all kinds of birdie noise outside (the parent birds) and went out onto the deck and there was our little 6 pound tortie, Robin with the fledgling in her mouth. BOTH parents were bombarding her with pecking on her head. By the time the boys got out there to catch her and make it stop...she had finally given up the fight. We didn't feel sorry for her!
ReplyDeleteGee, what an adventure! We're glad no kitty had a paw in the poor bird's demise, though of course it's instinct all the same. Still, this would have been the highlight of any cat's day!
ReplyDeleteYIKES....where did that bird come from? We had a few come down our fireplace until Mom (spoil sport) had it blocked.
ReplyDeleteYes it is instinct, but it seems you are off the hook, Miss Fitz. Eric was the bird catcher here. He didn't often catch them, but if he did there was no way he was giving it up. He would clamp his jaws tight and growl. It was the only time he would ever growl. Flynn had no interest in birds. Mice were his speciality.
ReplyDeleteIn the decade plus that we've had outside cats, I only know of two birds that were killed by them.
ReplyDeleteThe PO'M got a mourning dove, and it's mate cooed and chattered overhead for a day, making me feel wretched, since they mate for life.
I moved the corpse from the deck into a nearby garden with a shovel, but Paddy brought it back!
Next, I carried the poor birdie 'way out back, and buried it.
Kitties and birds don't mix. It's kitties duty to kill birds. It's just how they roll.
ReplyDeleteThank you for joining the Feline Friday Blog Hop.
Have a purrfect Feline Friday and weekend. Scritches all around and my best to your dad. ♥
oh no...
ReplyDeleteDon't bring it in- it is bad luck for bird to be in the house- although, I think the woodpecker already had the bad luck. XO

Hmmm, maybe Amazon delivered it!
ReplyDeleteYeah, birdies are actually pretty hard to catch! Ground prey are much easier.
ReplyDeletewe have had many birds fly into our windows- but so far we have been able to rescue them- my sweetie hears them hit the window- runs out and picks them up and holds them in his hands til they recover and start wriggling around inside his warm hands- then he lets them go! Here's an older post from my blog that shows him helping a big woodpecker

Looks like there was a bit of excitement - even if it was just found and not caught!
ReplyDeleteAwww, poor little thing. I'm glad it wasn't murder though.
ReplyDeleteYes, we have birds that knock themselves out on our windows, too, sometimes. I put one in a softly lined shoebox once it was cold and the poor birdie needed to warm up and recover. It was gone the next day:)
ReplyDeleteThey are not all so lucky...
That's an unlucky downy woodpecker...a female, I think..
Miss Fitz, you thought you were going to get away with pretending you caught that birdie?? But you got busted, LOL! And forgiven:)
It's nature... Birdies are hard to catch, but we both are pretty good at it (sorry mom !). But we don't kill just for fun, Zorro always eats them (the ones he got himself, and the ones Pixie gives him) ! Purrs
ReplyDeleteSigh! We are sad about the burd. We are glad that none of yours did it.
ReplyDeleteIt would have been a relief for me, too, to know one of my cats hadn't killed a bird.
ReplyDeleteSadly I do catch mice and birds. Usually they are alive though, well for a while unless Mrs H grabs it. I am glad though that you didnt upset your dad, Miss Fitz, as he loves the birds. Stay well you all, and keep sticking to the mice, MOL
