Hi to all our friends. This is a very special day across our Great Nation as it is National Feral Cat Day. Feral Cats, also known as Community Cats, are just cats who are not socialized to humans and are therefore non-adoptable. They have lived alongside humans for 10,000 years so have a long history of helping keep vermin in check. They live in colonies for the most part and are as healthy as we with homes and families. I will let Miss Fitz tell you the most important thing to know about Community Cats.
Thanks Timmy. What we and our parents should all be working towards is having local Trap-Neuter-Return programs where we live. These provide Spay and Neuter to Community Cats preventing unwanted pregnancies helping populations stabilize. The sad facts is that almost 70% of all cats and near to 100% of Community Cats taken to shelters and pounds are killed. We can do better as a Country!
Alley Cat Allies started National Feral Cat Day on their 10th anniversary in 2001. The Theme for this year is Evolution of the Cat Revolution which we all think is just a wonderful way to help get the word out. Check out these these Ideas and Inspirations.
Marvelous Mr Buttons. We are all rescue cats and I was saved from a kill shelter where I was taken by a bad breeder due to not meeting breed standard. If not for these hero's who take the time to check local pounds for adoptable cats many of us would not be in loving homes giving back to our families
Rumpy I don't agree with you much but that is Right On Dood! Our Dad gives through his job to local no-kill shelters and foster organizations that support TNR along with national groups like Ally Cat Allies. Every cent, conversation about TNR or help given to foster or support Community Cats helps. Friends, do you encourage your pawrents to help Community Cats?
Thanks Buddy Budd. We wanted to add a bit of fun to our post today so we included a fun picture of Frank the Feral. We love Frank. He is so cute and we see his fridge magnet everyday holding Dad's shopping list. Print this out and color frank in! You can see his colors at Alley Cat Allies or make him match your favorite fur.
That Frank is almost as handsome as I am Einstein. Here is another fun poster to color in. I really like that Evolution of the Cat Revolution as it says how far we have come. Lets keep the word going out!
You bet Toby. We have come a long way but there is still a lot to do. Remember to promote TNR and No-Kill initiatives every single day of the year, not just today. You can donate like Dad, Volunteer or Spread the Word. All are equally important.
Thanks from our family to yours
